Triple Victor Athlete Brendon Terry Celebrates 10 Years in Triathlon at Pinehurst International Distance Triathlon

PINEHURST, NC – This past Saturday, Pinehurst, a picturesque village in North Carolina, hosted the exciting Pinehurst International Distance Triathlon this past weekend, drawing athletes from 20 states and Washington, DC. Among the competitors was Triple Victor Athlete Brendon Terry, who celebrated his ten-year triathlon anniversary by returning to the race that started it all for him.

The challenging event, which featured a 1.5-kilometer swim, 42-kilometer bike ride, and 10-kilometer run, served as a training race for Brendon as he prepares for the upcoming White Lake PRO-AM Half. Brendon competed in the male 40-44 age group and demonstrated his dedication and determination to overcome on-course adversity while reminding us that course recon is essential.

Despite following a fellow athlete through a wrong turn on his hometown course and unintentionally adding nearly four extra miles and 10:30 to his race, Brendon finished with a respectable time of 2:44:58, placing 6th out of 17 in his age group. Chandler Carranza won the age group with an impressive time of 2:26:57. Brendon shared that the road had non-race arrows painted on it, creating confusion but acknowledged that it is ultimately the racer’s responsibility to know the course.

In the elite divisions, regional athletes dominated the top spots. In the men’s race, Kevin McDonnell from Knoxville, TN, claimed victory with a time of 2:18:07, followed by Justin Burrows from Apex, NC, and Nathan Poland from Cary, NC. The women’s elite division featured only one entrant, Erin McKee, who completed the race in a time of 2:35:16.

The age group categories showcased strong performances from athletes across the country. The top three age group men were Tyler Hatton, Travis Albrecht, and Michael McVea, finishing with times of 2:20:23, 2:20:56, and 2:22:35, respectively. The top age group women were Sloane Tilley, Lucille Tasker, and Lisa Bishop, with finish times of 2:28:54, 2:30:32, and 2:42:25, respectively.

The Pinehurst International Distance Triathlon also offered relay teams, a short-course triathlon, and aqua-bike events, allowing athletes of all abilities to participate. The Pinehurst Triathlon Festival is always a fun event with multiple options for athletes to enjoy. The Village of Pinehurst, located in the North Carolina sandhills, offers access to numerous 5-star golf courses, world-class equestrian facilities, and hundreds of miles of beautiful cycling roads, making it a great destination event.
