25th Anniversary of Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Celebrated with Record Participation and Stellar Performances in Washington, DC
Washington, DC – March 18, 2023 – The Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series marked its 25th anniversary with an unforgettable event in Washington, DC. Over 17,000 registered runners from all 50 US states and 38 countries, regions, and territories participated in the United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Washington DC Half Marathon and 5K races, making it a truly global celebration of fitness, music, and camaraderie.
Among the age group athletes in the half marathon was Triple Victor athlete Chris Gorgoroso, who set a new personal course record by 1.5% and a half-marathon personal best with a finish time of 1:47:28. Gorgoroso’s impressive achievement builds upon his preparation for his upcoming IRONMAN 70.3.
In addition to the age group athletes, the half marathon also featured a field of elite athletes, with Samuel Doud from Washington, DC, claiming victory with a time of 1:07:08, and Hirut Guangul from New York, NY, topping the women’s field in 1:16:34.
The redesigned half marathon course took participants over the Potomac River via the Arlington Memorial Bridge for the first time since 2016. It offered breathtaking views of the iconic Capitol Building and Washington Monument as they crossed the finish line on Pennsylvania Avenue. The all-new Finish Line Festival along the National Mall provided the perfect setting for runners to celebrate their achievements with family and friends.
In addition to the half marathon, the event featured a new 5K course showcasing the best of Washington, DC. Participants started with a view of the Washington Monument and finished in front of the Capitol Building on Pennsylvania Avenue, creating an unforgettable experience for runners and spectators alike.
Live bands and cheering spectators lined the streets throughout the event, creating an electric atmosphere that fueled runners’ motivation and lifted their spirits. The 25th anniversary of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series was a testament to the enduring appeal and success of this unique blend of athletics and entertainment.
